Reconcile a Bill

Open your account’s Forecast tab and find the bill in its pay period. Mark it paid, and if the actual amount differs from the usual one (a seasonal utility bill running higher than normal, for example), enter what it actually came out to. This only updates that pay period’s record — the bill’s normal amount stays the same for future pay periods.

Sometimes a bill’s due date passes before you’ve marked it paid — most often because the biller hasn’t actually charged yet. Once a pay period closes, its bills stop being editable directly, so Tally surfaces these separately as needs reconciliation — you’ll see a summary of them on your dashboard and account forecast.

To clear one:

  1. Open the Needs reconciliation section on your account’s forecast.
  2. Find the outstanding bill and mark it paid, adjusting the amount if it came in different than expected.

Resolving one always updates the pay period the bill was actually due in — not whichever pay period is current when you get around to reconciling it — so your bill’s history stays accurate even if you’re clearing it weeks late.
