Record a One-off Transaction

Use a transaction for anything that isn’t on a repeating schedule — a bonus, a tax refund, or an unplanned purchase. Add it on the account’s Plan tab, under Planned transactions, next to your bills and reserves — whatever date you give it:

  • Already happened (today or earlier) — it lands on the Activity tab right away, as money that already moved.
  • Coming up (a future date) — it stays listed under Planned transactions on Plan until that date arrives, then moves to Activity on its own.

Either way, fill in:

  • Amount
  • Description (optional) — e.g. “Tax refund” or “Car repair”
  • Category (optional) — pick from Tally’s category list, or leave it for Tally to guess; see Categorize your spending
  • TypeCredit (+) if it adds to your balance, or Debit (–) if it subtracts from it. There’s no need to type a minus sign for an expense — just pick Debit.
  • Date — which pay period it falls into

Save. The transaction shows up in that pay period’s forecast, affecting the running balance from that point forward.

The Activity tab shows your most recent 30 days first, newest at the top — use Show 30 more days (or Show all) to look further back, or search to find something older by description or category.

If the same expense or deposit is going to recur, add it as a bill or income source instead — see Track a recurring bill.
